Hey all

Not posting on here anymore. All bracketology updates can be found on Twitter @imPULSEivity. I’ll always respond and love discussing the tournament/seeds! The winning bracket from 2017 will remain on this site for your viewing pleasure.

“Beat the Pulse” Bracket Pool

If you signed up for my Beat the Pulse bracket pool, and you don’t know me personally, please let me know who you are. I’m not going to try to hunt you down. (If you know me and your username is difficult to link to you, please let me know as well.) Thanks people.

On Brackets, Winning, and All That Fun Stuff

Today was a good day. I’m still elated to see my name at the front of the Bracket Matrix with a record-breaking score. I’d like to thank the academy, my parents, my fiance for dealing with me staying up til 3 AM poring over KenPom data (even if the committee still refuses to admit that metrics are important), Joe Lunardi for teaching a “basics of bracketology” class that sparked my interest in the first place, and ESPN for allowing me the opportunity to watch college hoops for a living.

This, of course, does nothing for one’s ability to actually pick a winning bracket. If you want to challenge me, I run an annual “Beat the Pulse” pool (found here: http://games.espn.com/tournament-challenge-bracket/2017/en/group?groupID=99529) that hopefully will surpass 50 people this year. Feel free to join or hit me up on Twitter @imPULSEivity. I’m always down to chat about anything, whether it be college hoops related or otherwise.

This blog will eventually evolve into more than just bracketology, but it seemed like a fitting start to kick off the writing with a W.

Final 2017 Bracket Projection

Merry Christmas everyone!

On my Mount Rushmore of best days of the year, 4 seem to stand out clearly. Birthday, Christmas, Opening Day and Selection Sunday. The tip-off of March Madness on Thursday is a close 5th, but it only exists thanks to the glory that is Selection Sunday.

As it always does every year, the bubble shrinks, and a few teams get enough signature wins to make it in the field. Every February, we proclaim this bubble to be “the weakest bubble in our lifetime!” but somehow bids get stolen from mid-major conferences, and everything works out in the end:

UPDATE: Rhode Island takes the A10 automatic bid, bumping them to the top of the 11 line and moving Xavier into the First Four.

Here are my bracket predictions, in true seed order:

2017 bracketology submission

1- Villanova, Kansas, North Carolina, Gonzaga

2- Duke, Arizona, Kentucky, Louisville

3- Baylor, Oregon, UCLA, Florida State

4- Butler, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Purdue

5- Florida, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Virginia

6- Iowa State, SMU, Minnesota, Michigan

7- Oklahoma State, Maryland, Creighton, St. Mary’s

8- Wichita State, Miami, Arkansas, Northwestern

9- Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Dayton

10- Seton Hall, South Carolina, Marquette, VCU

11- Providence, Rhode Island, Xavier, Wake Forest, Kansas State, USC

12- Middle Tennessee, Nevada, UNC Wilmington, Vermont

13- Princeton, East Tennessee State, Bucknell, Winthrop

14- New Mexico State, Florida Gulf Coast, Iona, Kent State

15- Northern Kentucky, NC Central, Jacksonville State, North Dakota

16- Troy, New Orleans, South Dakota State, Texas Southern, UC Davis, Mount St. Mary’s

First Teams Out: Syracuse, Illinois State

Pulse’s Picks: Bracketology Update (entering 3/11 games)

Note: Every team up through USC is locked. Only 3 conferences can still steal a bid, leaving Wake Forest, Syracuse and Kansas State vulnerable.

1- Villanova, Kansas, North Carolina, Gonzaga

3- UCLA, Baylor, Duke, Florida State

4- Butler, West Virginia, Purdue, Notre Dame

6- Iowa State, SMU, Wisconsin, Creighton

7- Maryland, Oklahoma State, St. Mary’s, Michigan

8- Wichita State, Virginia Tech, Northwestern, Miami

9- Michigan State, South Carolina, Arkansas, Seton Hall

15- CSU Bakersfield, Northern Kentucky, South Dakota, UC Irvine

16- Texas Southern, Jacksonville State, NC Central, New Orleans, Mount St. Mary’s, North Dakota
